Battle of the Badges 2019

The 2019 Music City Battle of the Badges put up record numbers, with DCSO’s finest leading the way, ALL THE WAY, with 399 pints donated! Nashville’s first responders donated a record 933 pints, and both Sheriff Hall and Chief Swann donated every pint of their agencies’ blood in tribute to MNPD Officer John Anderson.

Thanks to all who donated… together we saved 2,799 lives here in Davidson County!

Battle of the Badges News Conference

The news conference for the upcoming Music City Battle of the Badges blood drive was held at our Sheriff’s North Complex. The smack talk this year was overshadowed by Steve Underwood, the Titans President and CEO, upping the ante and announcing that the winning team will receive 100 game tickets, his suite for a game with 6 tickets, AND the winning team will be the 12th Titan at an upcoming game!

Officer and Employee of the Month – July 2019

Congratulations to our Officer of the Month, Warrant Officer Bryan McGee (27 years). Officer McGee was approached by a small child, approx. 2 years old, who appeared to be lost. Officer McGee picked up the child, notified Metro Police, and both units began combing through the neighborhood until they finally located the child’s home. Kudos Officer McGee!

Congratulations to our Employee of the Month, Case Manager Keyaiera Miller (7.5 years of service). Ms. Miller was nominated by her peers when she stopped to assist with an individual who she believed was contemplating suicide. Through conversation, she was right, and with two other good samaritans they were able talk the man down and wait with him until emergency response arrived.

Officer and Employee of the Month – March 2019

Congratulations to Barbara Freeman (14.5 years) from Pretrial Services and to Warrant Officer Greg Smiley (24 years)! Both were peer nominated for their work ethic, professionalism, and dedication to our community! Also recognized this morning were the officers and staff tasked with updating our Personal Appearance Policy. Soon we will see their gender neutral approach to this policy AND their efforts will continue in April when the same group will take on our policy for Employee Uniforms!

Keith Payne, Demetria Fields and Johnny Metilor (Pretrial Services) were recognized at our monthly meeting for their response to a critical incident in front of the Ben West building. Their actions and willingness to assist without a doubt kept a bad situation from getting worse.

Each month we nominate a Super Tweeter! This person through either Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram is our foremost online advocate and helps us spread the word about the great work being done by our officers/staff! Congratulations to our newest member of the #SuperTweeter club, Officer Amber Rumsey!

Warrant Officer Rodney Kelly also took home some accolades from the meeting! He received our Exceptional Service coin for being our team leader at the 2019 Music City Polar Plunge. The team nearly raised $2,000 for Special Olympics Tennessee with Officer Kelly bringing in more than $500!

Kudos to Ruby Joyner and Kinya Jamison! Both continued their professional development by earning certifications from the American Correctional Association. Ms. Joyner is our newest ACA Certified Corrections Manager and Ms. Jamison is now a Certified Corrections Officer.
